A small preschool
with a large purpose.

Our children explore decision-making and self-expression within a framework of bilingual communication, visual and performing arts, and sustainability-focused activities.

Bilingualism.

Our program offers a French-English bilingual, play-based curriculum. Half of our students are Francophone and half are Anglophone. Whether your child is already in a bilingual environment at home or in a monolingual environment this is a perfect age for children to learn another language.

“There are many developmental benefits to learning multiple languages at an early age, such as improved executive functioning skills—the ability to think flexibly, demonstrate self-control, focus attention, and tune out distractions (Bialystok & Martin, 2004; Zelazo, Carlson, & Kesek, 2008). Other research has found that bilingual children have better working memory than children who speak only one language. Working memory holds, processes, and updates information over short periods of time and is very important for problem solving and executive function (Morales, Calvo, & Bialystok, 2013).”

Sustainability.

There are simple ways in which we try to make a difference in sustainability. Some of our efforts include, but are not limited to:

  • Composting food waste

  • Recycling

  • Re-using recyclables for arts and crafts

  • Using eco-friendly, biodegradable and non toxic cleaners

  • Meatless Fridays!

  • Limiting use of plastics

  • Teaching the children about our efforts and having them take part!

Arts.

At Green Bean we understand the value of a rich arts curriculum in an early childhood setting. We do arts and crafts daily and encourage children to be hands on, creative and motivate them to explore their creative instincts. For young children, having the opportunities to express themselves through art and creative outlets leads to better social skills, emotional regulation, independent thinking, and seeing the world from different perspectives. Art also helps with development of both gross and fine motor skill.

We have weekly, in class yoga sessions, live music singalongs and creative movement offered by local artists!
